Peer Review Process

The Journal of Applied Sport Science and Coaching follows a rigorous and transparent peer review process to ensure the quality and integrity of the research we publish. Our peer review process involves the following steps:

  1. Submission and Initial Screening
    Upon submission, all manuscripts are initially screened by the journal's editorial team to assess their compliance with the journal's focus and scope, as well as adherence to the submission guidelines. Manuscripts that do not meet these basic criteria may be rejected at this stage.

  2. Assignment of Reviewers
    If the manuscript passes the initial screening, it is assigned to at least two independent expert reviewers in the relevant field. These reviewers are selected based on their expertise in sports science, coaching, sports health, or physical education.

  3. Review Process
    Reviewers evaluate the manuscript based on several criteria, including:

    • Originality and significance of the research
    • Methodological rigor
    • Relevance and contribution to the field
    • Clarity and organization of the manuscript
    • Ethical considerations, including human and animal subjects (if applicable)

    Reviewers provide detailed feedback and suggest improvements, which may include revising sections, clarifying concepts, or conducting additional analyses.

  4. Decision
    Based on the feedback from reviewers, the editor makes one of the following decisions:

    • Accept: The manuscript is accepted for publication without changes or with minor revisions.
    • Revise and Resubmit: The manuscript requires revisions (either major or minor) before it can be reconsidered for publication.
    • Reject: The manuscript is not suitable for publication in the journal.

  5. Author Revisions
    If revisions are requested, authors are given a specified timeframe to address the reviewers' comments and resubmit their revised manuscript. The revised manuscript is then re-evaluated, either by the original reviewers or by new reviewers.

  6. Final Decision
    After reviewing the revised manuscript, the editor makes a final decision. If the manuscript is accepted, it moves forward to production and publication.

  7. Confidentiality and Integrity
    Throughout the peer review process, all information related to the manuscript, including the identity of the authors and reviewers, is kept confidential. Reviewers are expected to provide unbiased and constructive feedback to ensure the integrity of the review process.
